This post has been SUCH a long time coming! I’m finally getting back on top of blogging after taking a 6 month hiatus after Vivian was born. I have a lot to catch up on but I really wanted to write down Viv’s birth story while it’s still somewhat fresh.

My mom came into town on October 31st and I was determined to have the baby as soon as possible after that to maximize the amount of time she would be able to help out. The next morning we took a brisk walk around the neighborhood and right as we were finishing up, my water broke! I was so excited and couldn’t even believe it! Because this was baby #5 and I wasn’t sure how quick she would come, Bry and I decided to drive closer to the hospital and take a walk near there while waiting for contractions to start. It was such a nice day and we had great views but after walking for several hours, I still wasn’t contracting.

We decided to go to the hospital and get checked out just to be safe. After getting there they told me that I had failed my first gestational diabetes test (at 28 weeks) and had forgotten to inform me. I had failed the first one when I was pregnant with Reese but passed the second one so I wasn’t worried but they wanted to admit me just to be safe. About 14 hours after my water had broken I still wasn’t having regular contractions and so I decided to let them induce me. Bryan was able to sleep on and off while I waited for the contractions to kick in. Once the contractions started coming regularly I got an epidural and was (finally!) able to take a short nap. Pretty soon I was fully dilated and after a few pushes she was out! She was born at 5am and weighed 8lbs 11oz.

Even though she was my fifth baby and fourth girl, I was so excited to meet her! We had been going back and forth with her name and ultimately I let Bryan choose the first name and I chose the middle name. Vivian comes from a dear friend that I met while serving my mission in New Jersey. Bryan had met her a couple of times while we lived back east and we both just loved her! Mara came from the last four letters of my mom’s full name which is Tamara (but she goes by Tammy). So Vivian Mara Adams is what we decided on and 6 months later, we think it fits her perfectly!

I soaked up the one on one time at the hospital with her and Bryan was great at going and getting better food than what the hospital provided. 🙂 My mom was able to trade off with Bryan for a couple of hours that day to meet Vivi. The kids were dying to meet her but because of Covid restrictions they had to wait till we went home. Luckily they didn’t have to wait long!

Shelby and Abbie came into town the day I got home from the hospital and they were so good at entertaining all the kids while I soaked in some newborn time!

I love this pic of Viv with her Aunt Shelbs!

Shelby and Abbie transformed into Britta the Sitter and her sidekick and took the kids on a scavenger hunt that they LOVED.

So happy these two nerds could join us!! 🙂

My mom, Shelby and Abbie were such great helpers! We were so lucky go have all their help! Bryan’s mom came the next week for a few days and we feel like the luckiest to have family that is willing to come help us with our crazy crew!

We are so happy to have this sweet girl join our family! She is such a sweetie and has us all wrapped around her finger.

Her older siblings love holding and playing with her and she’s never bored in this house!

I know I’m biased but I think she is pretty cute! I love you forever Vivian Mara. I am the luckies to be your mama.
