For Memorial Day weekend 2023 Bryan planned a trip for us up to Acadia National Park. It was pretty last minute and I was hesitant to do the trip but then a VRBO popped up that was priced right and we jumped on it. With our kids ages, cabins are way more doable than camping for multiple night trips!

Our first stop was the beach! We got to Acadia in the early afternoon and decided to check out Sand Beach. Once we saw it, we decided that it would be our hang out the rest of the day! The kids LOVE beaches and they had a blast playing in the water and sand.

Reese and Viv ran in and out of the water for hours with Bryan.

Hank dug tunnels and made castles the entire time and was determined to not let the tide wash away his hard work as the day went on. Unfortunately the tide won that battle.

Maggie and Wendy both went “all in” despite the cold water temperatures and then they had fun exploring these rocks while they warmed up!

I kept Georgia entertained during her first beach trip and provided endless snacks for the family.

After a few hours we convinced the kids to leave by promising to come back another day.

We checked into our cabin that the kids declared must be my “dream home”. I always say I just want to live in a cozy cabin in the woods so I was pretty happy with our VRBO!

The next day we hiked the Jordan Lake to Bubble Rock trail, which ended up being a great trail for our family!

The kids kept wanting to wade into the water but there were signs everywhere saying it was prohibited. They had to settle for taking pictures by the water instead. 🙂

The trek to the top of Bubble Rock was a little steeper than anticipated, but the views were worth it!

Of course Maggie had to do her signature cartwheel at the top!! 🙂

The kids did great on this hike and were egged on with the promise of a treat at the end.

Bryan found out Maine was famous for its lobster and blueberry pie and decided we had to try it. We found an outdoor restaurant nearby which is always the best option for our family.

Bryan loves turning every possible experience into a teaching moment for the kids. Eating a lobster was no different!! We all decided that we were not fans of eating lobsters and in the future we will just enjoy seeing them in their natural habitat.

The blueberry pie, however, was quickly enjoyed and devoured by all!

After that, we returned to Sand Beach for the last few hours of daylight. Hank and Bryan played catch.

And the girls had a fun game going where they “danced with the waves”. This blurry pic is the best I got of them but I want to remember how magical watching them was.

For our last night we did story time and s’mores in the backyard of our VRBO.

The next morning we did the short Wonderland Trail before it was time to head home. The kids had so much fun exploring and the temperature was perfect, so we didn’t want to leave!!!

Acadia National Park was even better than we anticipated. There is something about spending a weekend in nature that is so rejuvenating for us all. I’m grateful to have a spontaneous husband that makes last minute trips like this happen!
