I have to admit, by May we were all getting pretty sick of quarantine. We had a trip to Idaho planned at the end of the month but our excitement for it made the month go by pretty slowwwww.

The weather here varies so much in May. We started out the month with a big rainstorm that the kids had to go outside and stand in.

A few days later it was so warm and sunny that we snagged our beach stuff and headed out for the day. Bryan happened to get off early last minute and so he joined us!

This beach is definitely one of our favorite places! The kids love looking for crabs, shells, and digging in the sand. This was Reese’s first time being there as an active participant and as you can see, she had no problem getting in on the action. She was obsessed with getting as wet and dirty as possible. 🙂

Mother’s Day was a few days later and luckily we enjoyed great weather. We had a fun morning playing at a park near our house.

One of my favorite parts of the day was when Maggie insisted that I read outside on the porch swing instead of on the couch during the little kids’ naps. She got pillows and blankets and even a stool with water on it to sit next to me. Then she told me to look straight ahead while she took a picture of me. 🙂 The whole thing was so cute and I never want to forget how much Maggie wanted me to feel loved and important on Mother’s Day!

Bryan made me a salmon dinner later that night and had flowers and a gift card from him and the kids. I’m one lucky mama!

We found a new park to explore near our house and it quickly became a new favorite.

Reese loves swinging and so a lot of May was spent with the kids out back pushing Reese on the swing!

The thing that has saved me the most during quarantine is that these 4 have each other to play with. They constantly keep each other entertained with random shenanigans like this. Overall they have become better friends through all of this. They still get grumpy at each other at times or fight over toys, but usually they all play together great!

Here they are eating pretzels in the backyard playhouse during a rainstorm. 🙂

I found this candid picture on my phone that one of the girls must have taken!

We make banana muffins weekly around here and Hank is my biggest helper! Out of all of my kids, he loves to help in the kitchen the most.

Reese recently discovered that she can fit into the bathroom cabinets. She loves to hide in there and then she fusses while I run around all the bathrooms in the house looking for her. 🙂

The kids and I take walks around the neighborhood everyday. In May, some of our neighbors were getting a bunch of trees removed and the highlight of a lot of our days was stopping to watch the guys climb up the trees and cut them down. Even I was fascinated! It was something that we probably would have missed if we hadn’t been in quarantine but right now, the little things going on around here have become the big things. Something about that is pretty magical to me.

More photos of me spying on the kids while they are in their own world.

Right before our trip to Idaho the days really seemed to be dragging. I thought Bryan had the day off the Sunday before we left but it was a miscommunication and he ended up working all day. We were all pretty stir crazy by late afternoon and so I loaded up the kids to explore more of the park that we found earlier in the month.

Maggie’s pose in this pic kills me! She insisted on wearing my jacket and I don’t even know where she learned to do a peace sign! 🙂

And this pic of Hank is such a classic because he always seems to be giving us the side eye and he can never quite keep a grin off his face.

The kids were eyeing this log the last time we came to this park but the tide was so high that it was mostly covered in water. This time they were thrilled to do a little more exploring. They can’t wait till it’s warm enough to come here in swimsuits!

Here are all of the “treasures” Maggie found this time around. A good walking stick, a snake skin, and some rope that she was convinced the Indians left behind when they lived here. 🙂

Quick selfie of all of us except for Reese who was in the stroller. Even though it’s hard to get out with these four alone, I rarely regret it!

And last but not least, Reesey girl snuggling with Daddy the night before we left for Idaho. He’s her favorite right now.

Whew! That was a lot of pictures! I felt like we didn’t do much in May but going through these pictures reminded me that we had a lot of really great moments. “The days are long but the years are short” seems like a fitting theme right now. There’s no one I would rather spend these long days with!
